4th Leadership Principle of the Holy Spirit – INSTRUCTION

Posted by:

“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you, but the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”        John 14:25-26 NKJV

Notice this is the second time we find the word “Helper” in the various texts where Jesus discussed the personality and leadership characteristics of the Holy Spirit. What’s more as we study these ten basic aspects of spiritual leadership, we’ll see it used two further times! It is so important that Jesus highlighted it four times in three chapters of John’s Gospel.

By using the Greek word, “parakletos,” He is telling us that the Holy Spirit’s primary job is as One “summoned to our side for assistance” in specific kinds of ways. In our verses for today, we find the first way that He helps us is by teaching us. How often do we not know exactly what to do or how to do it regarding God’s purposes for our lives? This is when the Spirit of God comes to our aid. In fact, Romans 8:26 (in the Amplified Bible) says exactly that: “So too the [Holy Spirit] comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplications and pleads on our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.”

This is an unusual approach to teaching but remember we are discussing spiritual matters. There are times when we have said and done all we know to do and yet still sense things are incomplete. This is when the Holy Spirit will begin to move with us in prayer to align our understanding with God’s will.

The phrase, “He will teach us all things,” speaks of the Spirit’s ability to move beyond natural boundaries to instruct, train and enlighten us in the ways of God’s Kingdom. Of course the Lord teaches us many practical things along the way but our main classroom is always in the school of the spirit, where it is too deep and unreachable for the unspiritual to attend.

If you “want to know” God let His Spirit enroll you now to prepare you for the degree of wisdom needed to finish your course!
