6th Leadership Principle of the Holy Spirit – CONFIRMATION

Posted by:

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from my Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”    John 15:26-27 NKJV

There is that word, “Helper,” again! According to the Amplified Bible’s translation, the Holy Spirit is totally geared toward “counseling, helping, advocating, interceding, strengthening,” and “standing by” us! In this particular case He does all this by testifying OF Jesus through our life as a disciple.

In past lessons we pointed out how the Spirit of God teaches and reminds us what Jesus has said, but today let’s examine the purpose of those tasks. God wants to work deeply in us so He can reach further through us! The Holy Spirit Himself testifies of Jesus when He develops a disciple. There is an impartation beyond the information given. In other words, something is received from His nature that can be carried. This is also called an “anointing” or ability similar to His own with which to catch other people’s attention and touch their lives.
Mark 16:19-20 recounts the end result of the Apostles three and a half years spent in Jesus’ personal boot camp! “So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.” How did the Lord work with these guys since He was at the right hand of God? It was through the person of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was and still is able to “confirm” His Word through those who: 1) have been with the Him long enough to have received something more than information and; 2) believe that what He said about signs following them (verses 15-18) was true!
Many Christians don’t believe in divine demonstrations today, and as a result don’t carry much of Jesus’ confirming power. All of us could use an increase…especially in light of the darkness ahead! The key is having been with Jesus before we go everywhere for Him…coming days will demand this!
