5th Leadership Principle of the Holy Spirit – RECOLLECTION

“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you, but the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”      John 14:25-26 NKJV

If you are like me, you forget more stuff everyday than you care to remember. Many things need to be forgotten and left in the past so we can move forward. God uses change to develop us spiritually. For that reason I allow casual information that moves across my mind through the day to vanish with the night. This keeps me free to track God’s continuous infilling information.

Some things, however, not only need to be remembered but valued and cherished. For example, we are instructed to “bind” the Word of God around our necks and write it upon the tablets of our hearts” (Proverbs 3:1-3), (2 Corinthians 3:3)! According to the Bible, the renewal of our minds is the key to our spiritual transformation (Romans 12:1-2, Ephesians 4:23). I am very thankful that the Holy Spirit is the One alongside me to help remind me of that Word…particularly the things Jesus has already taught me that I might have forgotten to apply, at any given time. He is commissioned to “bring to your remembrance” all those things Jesus spoke.

Notice that this promise was made to the disciples in particular. By being closely associated with the Lord, the implication is that they had already heard Jesus’ words or The Word. How else could the Holy Spirit remind them of it?

We are Jesus’ disciples today. We too need His Word to abide in our hearts. It is more valuable than any other single resource, especially if we end up being the generation faced with walking faithfully through the last days!

Learn to depend on the Holy Ghost for spiritual recall. There are many things we have had written upon the tablets of our hearts in the past, which the Lord needs to call back into our conscious awareness if we are going to overcome. Small understandings, big lessons, but anything the Lord wants you to remember is important. Listen for the voice of the Spirit and don’t be surprised when He simply reiterates prior information. He is turning it into revelation and understanding…inscribing it on your heart until you are established in the purposes of God for your life!
