Safe in the Calling

A Prophetic Word of Warning to America

In October of 2000, I was on a ministry trip in the nation of Chile with my wife, Bobbi. After an exhausting three-week preaching schedule we were taking a two-day break with a friend there in the ocean side city of Vina del Mar, before returning to the states. What I dreamed on that first night so shook me that I sat straight up in bed dazed and confused in the small cottage where we were sleeping. It had startling implications for our nation and every nation of the world. After ten years, this experience remains fresh in my mind. I share it with you because I believe right now the message is more urgent for this country than ever! This is what I saw.

I was walking along a highway, holding the hand of my wife, with a vast, flat expanse of land visible before us. On our right side there was a large grass embankment like the ones you often see surrounding those highways where the road has been cut into the side of a hill during it’s construction. As I took in my surroundings, suddenly a mass of people, literally of every kind, came stampeding over this embankment toward us from behind my right shoulder. As they ‘stormed’ down in front of us, I put out my right arm to prevent Bobbi from being trampled. It was obvious to me that we were in a dangerous place and would have been caught off-guard had I not been paying attention. A great mass of people ran in panic and terror off into the horizon! This dream was the most graphic and intense of the many I have received from the Lord. It was shockingly clear and as you will see, very direct in its message.

Once the crowd had passed diagonally in front of us, the scene changed and I found myself running alongside them toward my left, into the distance. Separated by a short distance, I wondered who they were and what they were running from? Only later did I realize that I had left Bobbi behind! At that moment I was somehow more concerned about where it was all headed but I soon realized God was simultaneously showing me something about both the future of my world and myself! Continuing to run alongside the crowd I turned to look forward when I suddenly noticed a very odd sight up ahead. In the distance, there was a large, oversized pulpit standing directly in my path (again, to the left of the crowd…see Psalm 91:7-12)!

As I came closer, I took note of its beauty and the way it was made. It appeared to be composed of a marble-type yet translucent substance, having a simple, open and very elegant style. There was a pillar on each corner, with a slab for it’s base and similar, though slightly slanted one, on top. This pulpit was very large and striking in appearance but as I came nearer, instead of stopping to closely examine it’s blend of natural and supernatural beauty, I found myself running inside it as if taking cover! I crouched only slightly to fit within its dimensions.

It was at this point in the dream that I first fully realized that I had left Bobbi behind. My mind had been so caught up in what I had experienced that I did not even know what these people had been running from or how I became separated from her. When I turned to look back, I was shocked to see the entire rear horizon full of the same kind of people, seemingly from all nations of the world. While panning the scene, suddenly the crowd spoke to me saying, “People from every country and nation are calling you. They are calling to hear what you have to say!”

Dreams are often like revelation knowledge, which we receive from the Spirit of God while reading the Bible. They contain different facets of meaning that unfold in our understanding over time. While reflecting on what I had been shown later, I recognized that from the angle I had been running the people on the rear horizon were probably people standing back on the highway with my wife who were now part of the Lord’s next harvest field. While I had been sent off to ascertain what was happening, she had remained with the work there. I also realized that this dream was only partially personal and probably mostly collective in its meaning. I not only represented myself, but was also, if not mostly, a picture of the Church itself.

God was showing me what was coming upon the earth and what kind of great door it would open to sincere Christians everywhere who would be willing to run into the center of His calling for their life in this hour. The nations of this world will literally call out to know what Jesus Christ has revealed to us in this coming chaos. What we should be focusing on is not the natural fear of the coming calamity that is rushing upon this nation and the world…we should rather be preparing to have something worth saying with our lives in the spiritual aWAKEning it will create.

I could feel the weight of those words as the nations of the world called out to me. It was as if I had been lifted into a divinely ordained position and could sense the grace of God that was upon me for the time and the task. Immediately, I turned back around in the pulpit only to have something even more shocking happen to me! Suddenly, I had this overwhelming sensation of the Lord’s presence rushing up behind me just as I turned. It happened in an instant, like when the Holy Spirit fell on the Church on the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter two! As when a person subjected to life-threatening trauma experiences the slowing down of time, I literally felt the Lord rush up to me and speak into my ear the last words I expected to hear!

I did not see Jesus, I only heard his voice, but what He said has continually resounded inside my spirit since just days before the controversial 2000 U.S. presidential elections! His presence was so sweet, yet His words sent a wave of fear through my whole being. “Rocky, this is happening because the President of the United States is dead!” That is what I heard simply, loudly and clearly. It so startled me that I nearly launched out of our bed moaning and awakening my wife in the process. After a few minutes she calmed me down, but I have never lost the urgency of this night vision that was indelibly imprinted in my mind that night.

What few times I have shared this over the past decade have been in order to sound an alarm that might possibly stir some or all of the Church to a place of deep humility before God. Although the Lord had given me a few other general warnings about the future of this nation and the Church in it, I could not have known that just less than a year later all of us would find ourselves living in a much more dangerous world! The international chaos that has followed the tragic events of 9/11/2001 continue to reverberate throughout the world’s political, economic and spiritual dimensions. This entire decade has given us many reasons to believe something like this could easily have been planned and it is possible that the prayer of many Godly people in this nation have reversed some of what I saw. We know from scripture that things can be changed in many instances and it is my prayer that what I saw and heard will not come to pass at all.

However, I also know that sometimes we get a glimpse into the future for the purpose of preparing ourselves for what is to come. Although the last thing I want to do here is stir up any controversy that would lead to extremes, I must obey what I believe to be a heavenly vision and report what I believe to be true when urged by the Lord to do so. It would seem the life of some current or future president and the very nation over which he or she presides are both in grave danger. Therefore, let us consider our ways before The Lord and seek Him like never before in order to either be ready for or avert these things. Let us cry out on behalf of both our present and every subsequent president and leader of ours, believing that God will have mercy, pardon our sins and lead us in the way we should go. I am asking the Lord to protect and guide, to give wisdom and revelation, to confound the satanic strategies of all our enemies and to prepare us to reach our world for Christ like never before. Please agree with me and pray consider this word.

Finally, the central theme of my dream was that we must run into the center of our calling as the Church and not be overrun by the surprising circumstances of the future. Every reader has a divine call or ‘pulpit to fill’ for Jesus Christ that must be recognized and pursued. Every church and Christian group shares that same responsibility corporately. In fact, the very concept of Christ’s Body as Paul articulates it in his New Testament writings, makes ‘Church’ itself our highest calling. Regardless of what comes, you must be close enough to Jesus to be ready and positioned to be used by Him, both alone and together with others of the same heart.

I leave you with a portion of scripture from Zephaniah:

“Collect your thoughts, yes, unbend yourselves [in submission and see if there is no sense of shame and no consciousness of sin left in you], O shameless nation! [The time for repentance is speeding by like chaff whirled before the wind!] Therefore, consider, before God’s decree brings forth the [the curse upon you], before the time [to repent] is gone like the drifting chaff before the fierce anger of the Lord comes upon you-yes, before the day of the wrath of the Lord comes upon you! Seek the Lord [inquire for Him, inquire of Him, and require Him as the foremost necessity of your life], all you humble of the land who have acted in compliance with His revealed will and have kept His commandments; seek righteousness, seek humility [inquire for them, require them as vital]. IT MAY BE YOU WILL BE HIDDEN in the day of the Lord’s anger.” -Zephaniah 2:1-3 Amp.

NOTE: Please be careful to scrutinize and test the spirit of my experience in the light of God’s Word, external circumstances and the counsel of other wise believers and ministers. If you are not saved, repent of your sin NOW and ask Jesus to come into your life to be both Savior and Lord! Do it before it is too late!! Believers, trust in the Lord and do not fear, God is on your side!

*This dream should be read along with my experience earlier that same year titled, “Jesus Wants to be Your Jonathan.” Taken together, they provide a heavenly answer for believers to stand on in an era of terror that, at the time, was only just beginning.
